The Rye City School District Board of Education and the 24-member Custodial Unit have voted to approve a new contract between the parties. This three-year contract is effective until June 30, 2016.
There will be no salary ‘step’ increases during the first two years of this contract. In the 2013-14 school year, Custodial Unit members will receive a one-time payment of $700/person. In the 2014-15 school year there will be a 1.25% mid-year salary increase, and in the 2015-16 school year there will be a 1.5% mid-year salary increase.
The new contract allows for cost savings in future years by reducing health benefit buy-outs and requiring the same percentage contribution toward health insurance premiums in retirement for new employees.
“The District made every effort possible to work with all members of the unit,” stated Assistant Superintendent for Business Ms. Gabriella O’Connor. “This agreement will help manage the growth in salary costs, which comprises a large portion of our annual budget.”
“The Custodial Unit contract negotiation carried the same spirit as that for teachers’ contracts, with the goal of creating a settlement that is fair to both our staff members and taxpayers,” stated Board of Education President Laura Slack. “The Board appreciates the work of the Custodial Unit in reaching this agreement.”
