The city council's agenda for its budget workshop on Monday, November 26, 2012 is out.
There will be a Budget Workshop held by the City Council of the City of
Rye on Monday, November 26, 2012, at 8:00 pm in Council Chambers at
City Hall.
Meetings are also aired on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39. We'll also see you on the Internet (live and archive).
Let's check the batting order and highlights from the four agenda items.
- Show Me The Money. Discussion of the FY 2013 Budget.
- Blue Cash. Police Department Budget Review.
- Book Cash. Rye Free Reading Room Budget Review.
- Flood Cash. Flood Advisory Committee
The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on
Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 8:00 pm.
I believe that there will also be a Golf Club commission budget meeting starting at 7pm tonight. Given the number of open questions about their budget, tonights session may be helpful in making Wendesday’s review by the City Council a lot more productive.
Be sure to take a look at LausDeo10580 before going to the castle tonight. It’s pretty amazing.

And after that, here’s a little levity for the soul sent to me today from someone clearly very unhappy with the results of the recent election –
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the Children of Israel, “Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.”
Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said,”Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land.”
Today, Congress has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land.
A friend told me he was so depressed thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc …. he called a Suicide Hotline.
He had to press 1 for English.
He was connected to a call center in Pakistan. He told them he was suicidal.
They got excited – and asked if he could drive a truck……
At this budget workshop, the Police Commissioner reported that the force had resolved the issue with the bicycle riders ignoring local traffic laws, riding through lights, etc. Well, I can report the Police Commissioner was overly optimistic as this past Saturday, 1 December, at 10:50 am, a troop of bicyclists came down Highland and without and attention to the traffic light made the classically illegal RIGHT ON RED on to Purchase. Interestingly enough, there were two Rye police cars sitting under the bridge blocking one lane of traffic for MTA work. But, not a word was said to the bicyclists. So, this is another case of mission not accomplished.
Bob, are you sure they were Rye police cars? Every time I have passed there they are MTA police. There RMP’s are silver.
And as an aside, before anyone starts commenting how these officers are there doing nothing, they are being paid by the contractor, not Rye or MTA police. There is a state law that mandates that certain construction jobs must have police officers on site to provide safety for the workers. Also, the wages that the officers receive are not pensionable — that is, it does not count towards their pension calculation.
And to close, I am shocked that we cannot reel in these bicyclists. As I posted a few months ago when Jim brought this to light, I would just stop the pack next Sunday, explain the law and consequences, and then tell them next week all V&T laws will be fully enforced.
@Average Citizen – yes, the were Rye Police. Because I, too, have mostly seen MTA patrol cars at that location I look to see who is on site and this past Saturday it was Rye Police.
