Rye Crew Team Are US Scholastic National Champions

The Rye High School Crew are now US Scholastic National Champions.
The team competed at SRAA Championships (Scholastic Rowing Association of America), which is made up of qualifying crews from High Schools around the US, this past Friday and Saturday in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Four boats represented Rye High School:
1) Women’s 2x: Clara Sutherland and Jillian Breen: qualified to time trials
2) Men’s Jr. 4+: Panikos Hadjipanayis (cox), Lachlan Nelson, Parker Vanamee, James Keller, Troy Gilman: Came second in time trials and advanced to semi-finals
3) Women’s Ltwt 4+: Mina Takegami(cox), Erica Kinstel, Shoshi Daniels, Iman Syed & Kayla Patel: came first in time trials and advanced to semi-finals
4) Men’s Ltwt 4+: Zach Szabo (cox), Jack Hartman, Jimmy Cronin, Tim-Rudolph-Math, John Dailey: first in time trials and semi-finals and advanced to finals and to win the championship!
It is a great achievement for Rye High School and a nice way to celebrate the ten year anniversary of Rye HS Crew.
Last hurdle of the season will be the USRowing Youth Nationals in Sarasota, Florida, June 9th-11th, 2017, where qualifying clubs and schools will participate. In addition to the men’s lightweight 4+, Rye HS will send the Women’s 2x comprised of Clara Sutherland and Jillian Breen.
