Who can beat wine and discussion of antibiotic-resistant bacteria on a Thursday night?

Superbugs book Dr. Matt McCarthy

The Rye Free Reading Room will host Dr. Matt McCarthy tonight, May 23, 2019 at 6:30 for a discussion of his new book, Superbugs: The Race To Stop An Epidemic. He will discuss his battle against superbugs, those antibiotic-resistant bacteria that threaten the lives of patients. Through a groundbreaking clinical trial, trace the history of bacteria and antibiotics, and discover new medicines and treatments under development.

There will be a wine and cheese pre-reception at 6:30 pm and a discussion at 7pm. The event is being held at the library's community meeting room.

Dr. Matt McCarthy

Dr. Matt McCarthy is the author of two national bestsellers, The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly and Odd Man Out. He is an assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell and a staff physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he serves on the Ethics Committee. His work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, Slate, The New England Journal of Medicine, and Deadspin. He reviews nonfiction for USA Today and is editor-in-chief of Current Fungal Infection Reports (I never miss an issue…). He resides in Westchester County. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
