For Monday, Westchester reported the following City of Rye numbers:

186 total COVID-19 cases since inception;
9 active COVID-19 cases (this assumes the remaining 177 have run the average two week contagion cycle and are no longer active);
1 new COVID-19 case

Rye guy and Westchester County boss George Latimer delivered his update from Yonkers City Hall with Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

“We do intend to open Playland Beach Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,” Latimer reported. The opening is for the beach only, and for Memorial Day weekend only. Future opening of the beach depends how well the opening is handled this weekend. There will be an attendance limit of 50% capacity, and masks and social distancing will be required.

The County Executive also said the Playland fireworks on July 4th are cancelled. Playland Park will remain closed until at least July 20, but there is still no word on an actual opening date or full seasonal closure on the Playland amusement park.

Just like everyone else, Latimer is looking at the NY State COVID-19 tracker for county and state level statistics on the pandemic and at the NY State regional  monitoring dashboard to see our progress towards reopening.

Important to note expanded reporting now shows fatality data from all nursing homes in the State, including The Osborn in Rye.

  • Fatalities at Westchester nursing homes – The Osborn Home in Rye is reporting five (5) confirmed COVID-19 deaths and five (5) presumed COVID-19 deaths thru May 17th (that’s no new confirmed deaths since the prior update). There is no data from Rye Manor or Vienna Senior Housing.)
