The LoHud case for Declan:
“Declan Lavelle, Rye
Sports: Football, Hockey, Baseball
Accolades: Section 1 Class A Player of the Year, first-team all-state (football); Journal News/lohud Westchester/Putnam Player of the Year, first-team all-state (hockey)
Stats: Football — 181-of-305 for 2,796 yards and 36 TD passing (both school records); 512 yards, 9 TD rushing. Hockey — 21 goals, 18 assists, plus-16 rating.
The case for Declan: It was a remarkable senior season for Lavelle, especially if you consider that he never played one game of baseball, the sport he will play at Fordham. But Lavelle, a pitcher and shortstop, used his strong right arm to lead Rye to its first Section 1 football title since 2014. After breaking multiple school passing records, he then followed by steering the hockey team to a Section 1 Division II title. Lavelle’s all-around talents resulted in him being the only non-track and field athletes named to three Journal News “elite” lists. He was selected Super 11 (football), Super 6 (hockey) and Nine Who Shine (baseball).”
