Rye Memorial Day Ceremonies To Be Virtual
The City of Rye will carry on its tradition of honoring deceased veterans on Memorial Day, next Monday, May 31, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 guidelines, the ceremony will be virtual and air on Rye TV (Cablevision 75 & 76 or Verizon 33 & 39) at 10am, noon, 3, 5 & 8 PM on Memorial Day and on ryetv.org.
American Legion Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros will lead the virtual ceremony. Rye City Mayor Josh Cohn and County Executive George Latimer will offer welcome remarks and greetings.
Legionnaire Terry McCartney will read the roll of honor and he will also receive the 2021 Rye American Legion Post 128 Americanism Award. Commander Fred de Barros comments, “Terry is a great citizen of Rye. He is a leader in city government, is involved in youth sports and active in veterans’ issues.”
Pastor Dan Love of Rye Presbyterian Church will lead the invocation. Matthew Cipriani, a student at Resurrection School will read the Gettysburg address. Legionnaire Tim Moynihan and Dave Ball of RyeVets.org will read stories about select Rye veterans who died in WWII to honor the 80th anniversary of the start of WWII.

Robin Latimer will sing the national anthem. There is no parade nor essay contest this year.
A stain on Rye that will last forever!
On this Veterans Day, we remember our friend Bob Schubert. Bob was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who was disrespected and mistreated by multiple Rye City officials in the last years of his life. #NeverForget
