Individual Arrested for Passing Counterfeit Bills @ CVS
The City of Rye Police Department has arrested an individual for passing counterfeit bills at the CVS store in downtown Rye.
Rye detectives working with the Westchester/Putnam County Counterfeit Task Force identified 27-year-old Corey Jones of Hempstead, New York as the party that passed the counterfeit bills at the Rye CVS. Back on March 24, Rye PD responded to the CVS store at 1121 Boston Post Road in response to a transaction where an individual paid for gift cards using ten, $100 dollar counterfeit bills. Gift cards are the most common type of fraudulent purchase.
The investigation was then turned over to Rye Detectives. Earlier this week on Tuesday, after a multi-agency effort that tracked the passing counterfeit bills across Westchester and Putnam counties, Jones and another male suspect were arrested by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Following Jones’s arraignment with Mt. Pleasant this Wednesday, Jones was arrested by Rye Detectives and charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree, a Class C Felony. Jones was arraigned in Rye City Court and was released on his own recognizance.
