Rye Boys Varsity Baseball MVPs: Tyler Winderman & Julian Pasquale
MyRye.com is featuring varsity team MVPs from the spring 2023 sports season. The MVPs have been selected by each coach. A big MyRye.com congratulations to all the MVPs.
After a finishing the season 14–7–1, Rye varsity baseball head coach Mike Bruno has named two MVPs: Tyler Winderman and Julian Pasquale. Both players were senior captains and led a young, inexperienced group to a successful year on the field.
“Tyler Winderman was everything a captain should be with his performance in the playoffs – he had the walk-off hit in our comeback win against Horace Greeley, and against Fox Lane, he pitched another 7 innings of 1 earned ball,” Bruno said. “Tyler’s team-first attitude and commitment to Rye baseball has been a great example for other players to follow.”
Winderman played shortstop for the Garnets, and he was a more than dependable starting pitcher, as well. Pasquale was a three-year starter at catcher, and he caught all 145 innings during the 2023 season.
“Julian Pasquale plays the toughest position on the field and does it without one complaint,” Bruno said. “To work hard and to persevere is a quality the coaching staff will miss [from him], but I know it has influenced the other players in the program.”
Both players earned All-League honors this season, and Pasquale was awarded honorable mention All-Section honors, too.
