NY Waterway ferry service arrived at Playland just after 1:00pm Saturday as the park celebrated it 95th anniversary. Park operator Standard Amusements brought back the historic ferry service for one day only, offering New York City guests an opportunity to set sail from Manhattan and the Bronx to Rye.
Playland is testing the feasibility of bringing back ferry service to its shores for future seasons. Rye old timers remember years ago when there was regular ferry service to the park. Rye kids would go down to the pier when ferries were departing to see if park goers would part with any extra, unused tickets.
“Today’s arrival of the ferry from Manhattan was a complete success,” said General Manager of Playland Jeff Davis. “Today was about confirming [if] the return of regular ferry service is possible and we look to expand the service in 2024.”
