PD Rescues 33-Year Old Male from LI Sound Waters

Rye PD rescued a 33-year old male undergoing a psychiatric emergency from Long Island Sound waters on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:15pm Tuesday, the Rye PD Marine Unit responded to a mayday call on Long Island Sound approximately two miles due south of Milton Harbor. A good samaritan had notified the United States Coast Guard via radio of a male in the water who had fallen overboard from an anchored vessel. The party was in the water and refusing assistance from the good samaritan.

Rye PD arrived on scene and located the 33-year-old male in the water who was suffering from a psychiatric emergency. The individual was assisted out of the water and on to the Rye Police patrol vessel and transported back to Milton Harbor. He was then transported by EMS to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Rye PD was assisted on scene by the New Rochelle Police Harbor Patrol, Village of Mamaroneck Police Marine Unit and the Hempstead Bay Constables.
