The local group Let the Kids Play has raised the required $2.9 milion for the artificial turf project at Rye Recreation’s Nursery Field. The project was affirmed by Rye City Council on May 1st with the stipulation the private funding be secured by or before July 1st.

“We have presented a certified bank statement to the city manager confirming that we have satisfied the requisite $2.9M of funding to fulfill the city council’s requirement in advance of the 7/1 deadline,” the Let the Kids Play group said in an email to supporters on Friday. “The Nursery Field Improvement Project is now moving to the next phase!!”

The $2.9 million represents support from 325 families in the City of Rye. That is an average donation size of $9,000.

The next phase is the completion of the design and then solicitation of bids. Rye City Manager Greg Usry confirmed the receipt of funds in a memo sent to the Mayor and Council members Monday saying he has review a bank statement showing $2,927,632 in the group’s account, received attestation from the bank in regards to the amount and also received attestation from the group as to the designated purpose of funds.
