The Girls Soccer Team ground out a gritty win on Saturday evening, edging the Tappan Zee Zees 1-0 at Nugent Stadium to win their fourth game of the season. Rye silenced an offense that was coming off a 7-goal outburst in their previous game against Somers.

“Rye’s defense was steadfast, with leadership from keeper Tessa Labowitz and centerback Claire Nemsick,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the game. Labowitz recorded five saves to earn yet another shutout, while Nemsick led the stingy defensive effort from the middle.

Savage highlighted the efforts of Parker Calhoun, Charlotte Keenan, and Hannah Jachman for helping push the pace offensively in the second half after Rye spent much of the first half playing on their heels. That pressure led to Lyla Keenan’s go-ahead goal with just under 35 minutes remaining in the game, off a centering pass from Jachman. Rand used great speed down the right sideline to evade defenders, and her cross-box ball found Keenan’s left foot. Her one-touch finish found the top corner to give the Garnets a 1-0 lead that their defense and goaltending made stand up.

Rye (4-0-1) hosts John Jay CR on Monday, September 16 in their next matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00pm at Nugent Stadium. Watch that game here. Review Rye’s win over Tappan Zee here.
