Three Rye Teens Charged with Reckless Endangerment After Shooting Pedestrians with “Bead Blaster” Guns
The Rye PD has arrested three Rye teens on charges of Reckless Endangerment. According to police, the three 16 year olds were shooting pedestrians just outside Rye Town Park with a “high capacity, high velocity, water bead blaster”. According to promotional material for one of the blaster guns, it shoots beads 170 FPS (feet per second), ” a fire rate of 8 beads/second”, a clip can hold 1200 beads and it can operate in full automatic mode (see a promotional video below).
Last week on Monday, September 2, 2024 at approximately 8:40 pm Rye units were dispatched to the area of Forest Avenue and Oakland Beach Avenue on a report of a white SUV shooting pedestrians with a “high capacity, high velocity, water bead blaster”. Two of the victims filed reports with the police and an investigation was opened.
On Friday, September 6, 2024, after a brief investigation ,three juveniles were identified, arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree a Misdemeanor. The juveniles were all issued Family Court Summonses due to their age. None of the victims required medical attention and the shootings were determined to be random not targeted. All three juveniles are 16 years old and all are Rye residents.
