Two third quarter goals lifted the #4 Rye Field Hockey Team to a 2-0 shutout victory over #5 Yorktown on Monday evening. Caroline Doyle (assisted by Sienna Myers) and Kate Morreale scored less than three minutes apart early in the second half, and the Garnets did not look back.

“The girls played very hard against a very talented, athletic Yorktown team,” Assistant Coach Theresa Jelalain told MyRye.com after the game. “Both teams gave it all they got in a very well played game.”

Rye had previously defeated #13 Somers 4-0 to start their Section 1 Class B playoff run, making it back-to-back clean slates for the team.

The Garnets are the lowest remaining seed left in their bracket, meaning they are done playing at home in 2024. If they were to upset their way to a third league title in five years, they will have to run through the best teams Section 1 Class B has to offer, and on their opponents’ turf.

The #4 Garnets (12-6) have their toughest and most important game of the season on Halloween (Thursday, 10/31) – a road contest vs Lakeland. Rye is 0-2 against the Hornets this year with zero goals scored. They will look to change that in a big way to try to advance to the finals in the Class B bracket.
