RHS ’94 Grad Will Skydive Into His 30th Reunion (and the Rye-Harrison Game)
People spend a lot of time thinking about how they make their appearance when returning for a high school graduation.
For Jeff Provenzano – 1994 Rye High School grad, professional stuntman and member of the Red Bull Air Force – it did not take long to decide how he’ll make his appearance for his 30th high school reunion. He’ll be skydiving into Rye’s Nugent Stadium for the Rye – Harrison game on Saturday, October 26th.
It gets better.
Provenzano has done it already. Two years ago, on October 8, 2022, he skydived into Nugent Stadium to deliver the game ball for the Rye – Harrison match-up. And this Saturday, October 12th at 6:00pm, he will be getting a little practice. Provenzano will be skydiving onto Playland Beach. It’s a feat that will coincide with an Octoberfest celebration at the Tiki Bar.
Now living in Harrison, Provenzano has made a living by skydiving – 22,000 jumps in 49 states and 40 countries. He has worked in the movies, with the military and with Red Bull, the energy drink brand known for its association with extreme sports. He said it was easy to set-up the Rye High School jump this year since the school district and its Superintendent Eric Byrne had dealt with him back in 2022. The skydive down at Playland was a bit more complicated.
“The biggest challenge on this was finding the right people to talk to, you know, and getting in touch with the right people in the County,” Provenzano told MyRye.com. “Because a lot of times when you call the County and you tell them, hey, I want to jump out of an airplane land and at Playland, you know, [they say] we’ll take a message and so and so will call you back and no ever closes back because they’re like, oh, this guy’s a lunatic, a whack job .. you know it’s hard to convince them in two seconds… like, no, no, no, really… like, I’m kind of like, the guy you would want for this.”
