Rye Varsity Football MVPs: Fenton, McGuire, Kessner, Wilmarth, Iuliano
Rye Varsity Football Head Coach Dino Garr has named five MVPs for the 2024 season – the five team captains: seniors Archer Fenton, Patrick McGuire, Jake Kessner, Andrew Wilmarth, and Chris Iuliano. Not only were these five players impactful on the field, but their leadership was essential in propelling the Garnets to an undefeated regular season and state championship appearance.
“These five young men represent the pillars of the Garnet Football Family: tremendous respect for their teammates, coaches and community; commitment; dedication; and a selflessness to our football program,” Garr told MyRye.com, speaking of his captains.
All five captains played both sides of the ball for Garr in 2024. Jake Kessner and Chris Iuliano routinely led the team in receiving and rushing yards respectively, while making several big plays on defense throughout the year as well (including a pick-six from Kessner). Garr frequently praised his offensive line for helping Rye win in the trenches, which Patrick McGuire led. McGuire was also a pest on the defensive line, including a strip sack against Harrison in ‘The Game’. Andrew Wilmarth scored his first career touchdown in the playoffs against Yorktown and scored again against Somers to end the year on a two-week score streak. His best work came on defense. Archer Fenton played a complementary role on offense but, like Wilmarth, shined on defense, regularly racking up solo tackles.
