Rye Hockey Continues Revenge Tour with 5-2 Victory, Season Split vs Mamaroneck

A three goal third period lifted the Rye Hockey Team to a 5-2 victory over the Mamaroneck Tigers on Friday, January 31. The Garnets overcame adversity in the second period and struck three times in the final frame to clinch their fifth win in the last six games.
“I felt we set the tone early, getting pucks deep and challenging their goalie en route to a 2-0 first period lead,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the game. “Penalty trouble, particularly a 5 minute major, lead to Mamaroneck scoring two of their own to knot the game… We got back to playing our game in the third and scored three goals for the 5-2 win.”
Connor Brady was the unlikely star, scoring twice, including the game-winner, while Max Niejadlik struck for one goal and two assists. Ryan Draddy and Dean Kim were the other goal scorers, as both the freshman and senior continued their productive years. Will Niejadlik (two), Will Molin, Jamie Morris, and Jamie Showers had helpers, and Fernando Mosquera won again, collecting 24 saves and only allowing the two power-play goals against. He earned his seventh win of the season, and now is on record for seven of Rye’s nine wins.
Rye (9-5-1) is as hot as they have been all year, and they’ve now earned season series splits with Suffern, Pelham, and Mamaroneck after dropping the first game to all three. They will look to reach double digits in the win column in their next tilt, a home matchup against Scarsdale on Wednesday, February 5. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30pm at Playland in the first of two games vs the Raiders in nine days.
