George Stephen Latimer, born on November 22, 1953, in Mount Vernon, New York, is a seasoned American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. Currently Congressman for NY-16, he has dedicated over three decades to public service, holding various positions at the local, county, and state levels.
Early Life and Education
Latimer graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University in 1974 and a Master’s in Public Administration from New York University in 1976. Following his education, he spent over 20 years as a marketing executive with major corporations, including subsidiaries of Nestlé and ITT.
Political Career and Connection to Rye, New York
Latimer has been a resident of the City of Rye for over 35 years. He lives with his wife, Robin Phelps Latimer, on Wainwright Street near Rye Playland. Robin grew up in Rye and went through its public school system. She works at Rye Beach Pharmacy and is a home care specialist. Together they have a daughter, Meagan.

Latimer’s political journey began in 1987 with his election to the Rye City Council. In 1991, he became the first Democrat to represent the 7th District on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, serving areas including the City of Rye, the Village of Larchmont, and the Town and Village of Mamaroneck.


During his 13-year service on the County Board, Latimer was elected as the first Democratic Chairman from 1998 to 2001. Under his leadership, the board enacted significant legislation, including the creation of the Human Rights Commission and the implementation of smoke-free workplace laws.
In 2004, Latimer was elected to the New York State Assembly, representing the 91st District. He served until 2012, after which he was elected to the New York State Senate for the 37th District, serving from 2013 to 2017. In 2017, Latimer was elected as Westchester County Executive, a position he held until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024.

Congressional Service
In 2024, Latimer successfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s 16th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2025. His district encompasses parts of the northern Bronx and the southern half of Westchester County, including his longtime residence, Rye.
