George Bancroft was commissioned in May of 1998 upon his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. He then underwent Naval Flight training.
In 2003, Bancroft deployed with VMFA-314 to the western pacific onboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2005, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Upon his return, Bancroft rejoined VMFA-314 and deployed to Iwakuni, Japan in 2006. After returning from Japan, Captain Bancroft transferred to VMFAT-101 to be an FRS instructor pilot.
He left active duty in 2009 to attend Columbia Business School in NYC and joined the Individual Ready Reserve.
Post-service, Bancroft enjoys golf, running, and striped bass fishing. He resides in Rye, NY, with his wife, Andrea Canning, who is an NBC News network television correspondent. He has five daughters and one son: Anna, Charlotte, Christina, Georgia, Elle, and George III. He works at GAMCO Investors as a research analyst and portfolio manager covering Aerospace and Defense and Environmental Services. More on Bancroft.
