Joseph DiGiovanni, the current Rye Middle School (RMS) principal, has been appointed the district’s new Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership.

The change comes in the wake of former District Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Leadership Dr. Brian Alm’s departure to become the Superintendent of Schools in Blind Brook. As DiGiovanni transitions into his new role, he leaves a vacancy in the middle school, which current RMS Assistant Principal Nicholas Clair assumes in an interim role.

Other administrative changes have included the appointment of Dr. Patricia Murray as the new Superintendent of Schools following Dr. Byrne’s retirement, and Dr. Cody Blume as the new Rye High School Assistant Principal.

DiGiovanni has been part of the Rye City School District since 2014, as assistant principal of RMS until 2020, when he stepped up to become the Principal. He began his career as a high school social studies teacher in the Warwick Valley Central School District.

DiGiovanni has a B.S. in Sociology from SUNY Oswego, a M.S in Instructional Technology for the New York Institute of Technology, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY New Paltz.
