The Rye Girls Soccer team kicked off their 2025 season with a convincing 4-1 victory against Pelham on Wednesday, September 3. Rye fell behind 1-0 but rattled off four consecutive goals to pull away and start the year 1-0.

“[We] opened [our] season in impressive fashion, defeating a talented Pelham High School squad on our home field,” Head Coach Rich Savage said after the game. “In the second half, [we] began to settle into a rhythm, moving the ball well and controlling play.”

Despite ceding the first tally, Rye entered the halftime break tied at 1-1 thanks to a converted penalty kick from Hannah Jachman. Senior captain Samantha Yeh scored the eventual game-winner early in the second half, followed by two goals from freshman standout Harkin Brown, resulting in the 4-1 final score.

Combined with the strong offensive showing, Rye’s defensive play tightened up after the early mistake to hold the Pelicans without many chances to score a second goal. Savage gave notable postgame props to Claire Nemsick, Julia Carballo, Ella Fleckton, and keeper Tessa Labowitz for their efforts in keeping Pelham off the board in the second half.

The Garnets (1-0) next play in the Hall of Fame Tournament in Albany this weekend, starting on Saturday, September 6. The Garnets will face Nardin Academy at 10:00am and then Niskayuna High School on 9/7 at 11:15am before heading home to prepare for quickly approaching league play.
