The Rye Girls Varsity Soccer had the Raiders of Scarsdale looking through two windows on Saturday in an 8 – 1 clean streak and polish.
“Rye came out strong and controlled the tempo from the opening whistle in a decisive victory over Scarsdale B,” Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the game. “The Garnets moved the ball well, with contributions from across the roster leading to an impressive offensive display.”
Captain Sam Yeh set the tone early, scoring just two minutes into the game and adding a second goal shortly after. The scoring surge continued as several Garnets notched their first varsity goals, including junior Caroline Tighe, senior goalkeeper and captain Tessa Labovitz, senior standout Jessica Mehrara, sophomore defender Emma Stark, and versatile utility player Lucy Carey. Alessia McKenon had a standout performance, tallying a goal and three assists to fuel the Garnets’ attack. Mae Haesslein recorded three saves to secure the win in goal.
Rye will look to carry this momentum into their next league matchup when they travel to Harrison on Monday (watch). The Garnets sit at 4-0-2 for the season. Watch the game replay.
