The Rye Girls Soccer team earned an impressive road win on Saturday, October 4, as they silenced Albertus Magnus 3-1. Despite the victory not helping the Garnets in league standings, it comes over the #1 team in all of New York State, and puts Rye in position to claim that title in the updated poll.
“As the game progressed, Rye settled in and gained confidence,” Head Coach Rich Savage said after the victory. “Captain Clare Nemsick anchored the defense, while goalkeeper Tessa Labowitz made several key saves to keep the Falcons off the board.”
Harkin Brown got the scoring started in the 20th minute with a header goal, assisted by defender Julia Carballo. The score held up until the second half, as Brown struck again after a slick feed from Ryann O’Donnell. Notre Dame commit Charlotte Keenan added another insurance tally just minutes later off a corner kick delivered by Shira Rand.
“Rand was relentless on the wing, contributing both defensively and offensively to keep the pressure on Magnus,” Savage said of his talented junior.
Albertus Magnus would score in the dying minutes to make the score look respectable, but it was clear to any onlooker that the Garnets dominated the game. They are still unbeaten in 2025 – a slight scuffle in mid-September saw them draw 0-0 three times, but they are still 8-0-3 after one month and one game of play. One of those draws was against Harrison, whom the Garnets host on Tuesday, October 7, at 5:00pm. Watch it here.
