The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (JLWOS) has made a $100,000 grant to Meals on Main Street of Port Chester (MOMS), the local non-profit that fights hunger and food insecurity. This is the largest single grant in the history of the JLWOS, and was given on the occasion of the group’s 75th anniversary. The grant will fund the launch of Meals on Main Street’s Mobile Community Café, a first-of-its-kind sit-down dining experience featuring a menu with no prices.

Over the years, JLWOS has supported local groups including Furniture Sharehouse, the Youth Employment Service at Mamaroneck High School, and LMC Media, among others. JLWOS has disbursed an estimated $1 million since its inception. This year JLWOS launched the ambitious Transformational Grant initiative to spark innovative and high-impact initiatives intended to bring about significant and lasting positive change. The group’s 75th anniversary was celebrated on Thursday, October 9, 2025 with an event at Locals 10538 in Larchmont where JLWOS President Chris Howe announced the Transformational Grant of $100,000 to Meals on Main Street of Port Chester.

Both groups have involvement of Rye residents. Rye Residents on Meals on Main Street Board include Sam Dimon (president), Pat Hart, Michele Allison, Mike Dailey, Niki Gibbs, Bryan Paul and Bradley Walbridge. Local resident Jane O’Sullivan was president of JLWOS from 2018-2020 and Nicole Klemens served as president just prior to O’Sullivan.

Meals on Main Street’s Mobile Community Café

The Mobile Community Café will traverse the Sound Shore in collaboration with community partners like Hope Community Services in New Rochelle to be accessible in convenient locations for its target clients. In its first year of operations, the Mobile Community Café is expected to provide 50,000 meals, to connect 25% of people served with local support services, and to serve as a showcase for other communities in Westchester County and beyond.

“We are thrilled to support the launch of the Mobile Community Café, at a time when food insecurity is on the rise, and we are excited about its new model to provide high-quality meals with dignity where they are most needed,” said JLWOS President Chris Howe.

“Innovation in the fight against hunger and food insecurity is not just about creating new solutions, it’s about reimagining how we bring nourishment directly to the people who need it the most, with dignity, speed, and care,” said Meals on Main Street Executive Director, Jon Haseltine.
