Three different Garnets scored as the Rye Girls Soccer team downed Eastchester 3-0 on Tuesday, October 28. With the win, Rye advances to the sectional semifinals, while simultaneously ending the Eagles’ season.

“It took a bit of time for Rye to settle into their rhythm, but once they did, their possession and pressure dictated the flow of play,” Head Coach Rich Savage said of his team after the game. “The midfield pairing of Hannah Jachman and Parker Calhoun was instrumental in controlling the center of the field, distributing the ball effectively and keeping Eastchester on their heels. On the defensive end, the back line of Clare Nemsick, Ella Fleckton, and Julia Carballo, along with Tessa Labovitz in goal, kept the Eagles off the scoreboard once again.”

Nemsick parlayed her strong defensive play with the game-winning goal, a header finish off a Shira Rand corner kick to break the ice in the 24th minute. Rand assisted on a very similar goal in the final 70 seconds of the half, as Hannah Jachman buried it from the box for a clutch insurance goal. With a 2-0 lead, Rye could focus on defending in the second half, which they did with perfection, while also adding another goal. Rand set a new season high with her third primary assist on the final tally, which Harkin Brown scored.

#3 Rye is two wins away from a sectional championship. Their road takes them to a home showdown with Tappan Zee on Thursday, October 30, at 4:00pm at Nugent Stadium. Replay the win over the Eagles here.
