The #3 Rye Girls Soccer team opened up their postseason run with a calm 4-0 victory over Irvington on Saturday, October 25. The Garnets were heavy favorites entering play against the #14 seed and handled business with no drama.

“Rye wasted no time setting the tone,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the game. “It was a complete team effort from start to finish, with the Garnets showcasing their depth, ball movement, and composure under pressure.”

Harkin Brown was fouled inside the box in just the fifth minute, and the penalty was converted by Hannah Jachman to put Rye in front right away. They maintained that lead all the way through the end of the half, generating chances against a stingy Bulldogs defense but failing to add on.

That changed in the second half, when Clare Nemsick scored a few moments after a corner kick. That tally was followed by two more, one from Samantha Yeh and Jachman’s second of the game to close her personal and her team’s account. The sudden onslaught removed any potential nerves from the game, which the Garnets controlled throughout.

Rye (14-0-3, 1-0 postseason) hosts Eastchester in their quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, October 28. Kickoff is tentatively scheduled for 3:30pm at Nugent Stadium, with both teams just three wins away from a sectional championship. Replay the Round of 16 win over Irvington here.
