Rye Girls Varsity Tennis head coach Tony Campbell has named his MVP for the 2025 season: sophomore Sofia Echlov.
“Sofia had an extraordinary tennis season, playing and winning in a range of positions in the lineup in doubles and singles,” Campbell told MyRye.com. “Due to injury, absence, or lineup change, she played with a range of doubles partners and won in each pairing as a steady and encouraging partner.”
While it was an up-and-down year for the Garnets on the court, Echlov’s consistent play (and health) proved invaluable. She showed up and showed out in every match, succeeding in both singles and doubles formats. Echlov was crucial to helping Rye through the sectional tournament in a league chocked full of talent.
“The bigger the moment, the more focused Sofia gets,” Campbell said of his star sophomore. “In tense and competitive moments, Sofia’s instincts and shot-making becaome more precise. Her individual record was a key to the teams success.”
