A suspect is in custody after the burglary of a home on Drake Smith Lane in Rye.
In the early morning of Friday, January 2, 2026 at 12:30am, Rye PD officers responded to a report of a blocked driveway on Drake Smith Lane just off Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle described as a blue Toyota Yaris parked in front of the residence. A vigilant resident stated she reviewed her security cameras and observed a male ring her doorbell at approximately 6:00pm and then walk to the residence adjacent to her. The vehicle’s registration was valid out of Danbury, Connecticut and Rye PD impounded the Toyota.
Subsequently, Rye PD was contacted by a New Jersey Police Department regarding a potential stolen car they had just recovered, an Audi Q5 that was registered to a residence on Drake Smith Lane. Officers checked the exterior of the Drake Smith Lane residence and found it had been burglarized. During the burglary, the homeowner’s Audi Q5 had been stolen. Police currently believe no contents were removed from the home. No residents were home at the time of the burglary.
Rye detectives were called in to process the scene and report they were able to connect the party in custody in New Jersey as the same party that burglarized the Rye residence. The male suspect is in custody at this time in New Jersey and warrants have been signed for his arrest here in Rye. The investigation is ongoing and Rye PD says more details will be released after the party is processed in the City of Rye. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
