The Rye Boys Basketball team won their fifth consecutive game on Monday, January 12, as they took down Roosevelt High School 72-60. The Garnets easily set a new season high with those ten touchdowns and a safety, and the victory helped the Garnets leapfrog the Rough Riders in the league standings.

“We put up 72 points against 32 minutes of full-court pressing and half-court trapping,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian told MyRye.com after the game. “The boys remained poised against the pressure defense the entire game, dissecting the press/trap and sharing the ball well.”

The Garnets knocked down a season-high seven three-pointers thanks to their ability to move the ball up the court and make the extra pass despite an aggressive Roosevelt defense. Carson Miller led the way with 22 points, with strong support behind him, including 13 from Henry Shoemaker and 10 from Milo Shirakawa. The balanced scoring helped Rye overcome a 31-point outburst from Frank Mercedes for the Rough Riders.

Rye (6-2) will look for their sixth win in a row on Friday, January 16, when they host 7-1 Suffern at the RHS Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm after the two schools’ JV programs battle it out at 5:00. The Garnets will look to win and jump their opponent for the second time this week. Watch the contest here.
