It is official.

After being elevated to interim city manager in March after the departure of former city manager Greg Usry, Brian Shea has been awarded the permanent position. The news was announced by new Mayor Josh Nathan at the Rye City Council meeting Wednesday evening. The news comes after a long search process and an election season where dissention seemed to inhibit decision making by elected officials.

Shea joined the city staff in February 2022 as the assistant city manager. He joined from the City of Albany where he served as the chief of city operations. Prior to that role, Shea was the chief of staff to the mayor of Albany. In that role, he served as chief spokesperson for the mayor and public information officer for the City of Albany. He has also served as the Upstate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Shea received his undergraduate degree from Binghamton University and his Masters of Public Administration from Marist College.
