The Rye Hockey team broke out of a mini three-game winless streak in standout fashion on Wednesday, January 28, as they crushed Pawling 7-1. The Garnets entered the contest with two straight ties, but scored just 1:01 into the game and never looked back against an outmatched Tigers opponent.
“We came out firing and set the tone early, building a 4-0 lead by the end of the 1st period,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the game. “We have been talking about not waiting to get ourselves going, and we certainly didn’t tonight.”
Jamie Morris stayed hot with a hat trick, and his offense was supported by several others. Mac Kelly scored his first varsity goal, while Will Niejadlik scored twice and Jack McGill started the party at 61 seconds elapsed time. The offense broke out in a game they needed to, while the other end of the ice was solid too.
Davis Goodman earned his first varsity win with 12 saves on 13 shots, picking up a steady .923 save percentage. His first win was Rye’s 10th, as the finally reach that milestone after their brief 0-1-2 winless stretch.
The Garnets (10-2-3) are back in action on Friday, January 30, in a highly anticipated matchup against Mamaroneck. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:30pm at Hommocks Rink against a Tigers team that started strong but has leveled out as the season has progressed.
