MyRye.com welcomes college and high school interns from the City of Rye throughout the year. One of our interns in the summer of 2025 was Will Kressler, currently a freshman at University of Delaware. He completed this Q&A interview with us at the conclusion of his internship.

You can read interviews with various MyRye.com interns. If you have an interest in writing, editing, photography or marketing, please apply to our internship program. We are currently accepting applications for summer 2026.

Your Name: Will Kressler

Your Title: MyRye.com intern

Describe yourself in one word: Extroverted

MyRye.com: What appealed to you about local journalism and the MyRye.com internship?

Kressler: Just to get more involved and grow at what I want to learn

Describe a typical day during your internship.

Kressler: My typical day consisted of getting an assignment to go somewhere, show up somewhat early and stay and take pictures throughout the event. I then go home, sort through the ones I like and then catalog them.

Tell us about one or two of your assignments.

Kressler: One of my favorite assignments was going to the Memorial Day parade. It was a really cool event and my club, the Rye Boxing Club, was actually in it. The photos I took came out great and I got good feedback from it.

What happens at the daily stand-up meeting?

Kressler: We talk and go over what we have been doing and what has to be done still. We also meet with speakers who tell us their knowledge of this industry.

The MyRye.com interns heard from various guest speakers, all with connections to local media. What were three of the more interesting things you learned?

Kressler:

  • Charlie Morris [MyRye.com sportswriter]: how much time he dedicated to his work and how he has grown to find and produce more work
  • Mark Lungariello [editor, The New York Post]: Got to hear his side of the Playland scandal

Where are you currently in college?

Kressler: I will be a rising freshman at the University of Delaware and I will be studying communications and hopefully be taking photos for the football team.

Do you plan to study writing, English or journalism as part of your academic and extracurricular activities?

Kressler: Not really sure yet.

Will you continue to study writing, English or journalism as part of your academic and extracurricular activities?

Kressler: I will definitely keep photography with me going into college

Will you continue to study writing, English or journalism as part of your academic and extracurricular activities?

Kressler: I may get more into the writing aspect more in college depending on how much of a workload i get from taking photos.

Thanks Will!
