The Rye Girls Lacrosse team topped Pelham in their season opener on Monday, March 23, winning by a final score of 15-7. The Pelicans hung around in the first half, but finally the dam burst in the fourth quarter, leading to a lopsided score in a competitive game.

“Seniors Mia Howson and Annie Toulouse powered Rye over Pelham,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com. “Our draw team, sepcifically Beau Whaling and Blake Sasse, dominated with 13 total draw controls.”

Howson and Toulouse combined for a remarkable nine goals and five assists on the afternoon. Both girls will be expected to rack up points – both scoring and playmaking – throughout the season as key offensive cogs for what should be a high-flying offense.

The Garnets raged ahead in the second half after Pelham led briefly 5-4 in the second quarter and the teams were deadlocked at 6-6 after 24 minutes of play. After a strong third quarter, Rye placed the foot further on the gas with a 5-0 fourth and final period to run away with it.

Rye (1-0) heads to Bronxville on Friday, March 27, for a 5:00pm road game. Watch it here. Replay the win over Pelham here.
