Rye High School Athletic Director Susan Reid won the most prestigious award in New York State Athletic Administration on Thursday, March 19, 2025, when she was awarded the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators (NIAA) State Award of Merit. Reid won the award for her exceptional leadership, meritorious service, and significant contributions to interscholastic athletics.
“I am very humbled by this award, as this organization [the NIAA] has given me great joy as a member,” Reid told MyRye.com. “I have grown as an athletic administrator not only because of the educational opportunities the [New York State Athletic Administration Association] offers, but for the networking and relationships it has naturally provided. My colleagues throughout New York have been a constant support, providing collegiality and friendship.”
Reid has been a member of the New York State Athletic Administrators Association (NYSAAA) for the past 21 years, consistently rising the ranks and working her way up to becoming the organization president. Some of her responsibilities include mentorship, administrative planning, and being a positive representation of Section One.
“I am grateful that I have had the support of Rye to allow me to serve within this organization,” Reid continued. “As a result, I can only hope that I am a better Athletic Administrator for my students, coaches, and the Rye community.”
Reid was honored on Thursday alongside Mamaroneck’s Bari Suman, who won the Chapter 1 Athletic Administrator of the Year and Byram Hills’ Mike Gulino, who won the Dr. John Foley Professional Development Award. However, Reid receiving her State Award of Merit was the highlight of the night, especially for Section One and most especially for the Rye Athletics community.
The NYSAAA is dedicated to the professional growth of athletic administrators in New York State. The NIAA falls under the NYSAAA umbrella. The organization awards the State Award of Merit on an annual basis.
