
The Rye Baseball team handled business against Nyack on Monday, April 13, winning 14-1 in 5 innings. The Garnets scored all of their runs within the first three innings and outhit the Redhawks 11-1 before mercy rule ended the contest.
Harry Ellis led the offensve with three hits, including a double, and five RBIs, the most by a Garnet in any single game this year. Right behind him in the order, Lucas London drove in three with two triples. Shortstop Nolan Hutson also tripled as part of a 2-4 performance with two runs and RBIs.
Rye also generated runs with their patient approach, as Michael Bruno’s team drew eight walks for a total of 19 players to reach base. For comparison, Garnets started Clayton McCarthy – who pitched four innings to earn his first victory – ceded only two baserunners, one hit and one free pass.
The Garnets failing to score in the top of the fourth inning snapped a stretch of 22 runs across their last seven offensive innings dating back to their previous win over New Rochelle on Saturday, April 9.
Rye (5-2) has now won four consecutive games, scoring at least 10 runs in all of them. They have a very real chance to make it five straight in a rematch with Nyack at Disbrow Park on Thursday, April 16, at 4:30pm.
