The Rye Softball team picked up their first victory of the year on Saturday, April 11, as they powered past Pelham 13-5. The Garnets had a banner day at the plate across the board, including some simultaneous sister milestones.
8th grader Georgina Gilmore mashed her first varsity home run in the 4th inning, a two-run shot to help Rye extend their lead. Those were her third and fourth RBIs of the game after a two-run single in the first inning. In total, on the evening, she went 3-4 with two runs.
Not to be outdone, Penelope Gilmore also lifted her first varsity blast in the top of the 5th inning, a solo shot to give herselt even more breathing room. Along with walking twice, Penelope pitched a complete game, with only 3 earned runs on 4 hits against. She struck out six.
Georgina will have perpetual bragging rights over Penelope for hitting her first career HR one inning before her older sister.
Reese McGill went 3-4 with a run and a stolen base, Ava Rollano had a two-run single and later came around to score, and Emma Stark scored twice on one hit and stolen base. She also recorded an RBI.
The Garnets (1-2) finally play at home in their next game on Monday, April 13, as they host Albertus Magnus at 4:30pm.
