The Rye Softball team suffered their third consecutive defeat on Tuesday, April 28, falling to Tappan Zee 2-0. The Garnets played exceptional defense to back their strong pitching, but only recorded one hit and zero runs in the batter’s box.
“Penelope Gilmore pitched a great game, allowing only 6 hits and 2 runs for the tough luck loss,” Head Coach Alex Tejera said postgame.
Gilmore, who leads Rye in innings this season by far, recorded one of her best outings of the season against the Zees. She threw strikes and worked around minor trouble throughout her six innings in the circle.
Reese McGill’s line drive single to left field in the fourth inning broke up the Tappan Zee no-hit bid. She was still the only Garnet with a hit after the game concluded.
Rye (2-9) travels to Scarsdale for their next contest on Thursday, April 30. First pitch is set for 4:30pm in the only regular seaon contest between the Garnets and Raiders this season.
