The Rye Softball team suffered a 5-inning loss to the Ursuline Koalas on Monday, April 27, falling 18-4 in a rematch from last week. The Garnets put together a much strong approach at the plate than the first meeting against the Koalas, but the dynamic Ursuline offense was too much for their pitching and defense to handle.

Rye recorded seven hits in five offensive innings, highlighted by Penelope Gilmore’s solo home run in the third inning. The leadoff hitter now has three longballs on the season to lead the Garnets – the first three of her career.

Clara Meszkat turned in a strong effort with two RBIs on a 2-3 day at the plate, leading the team in both hits and runs batted in. Olivia Hodes, Reese McGill, and Ava Rollano all singled, while Sophiah Collins tripled but did not score.

Rye (2-8) is right back in action today, Tuesday 4/28, as they visit Tappan Zee for a 4:30pm road contest. This is the first and only regular season contest between the Garnets and the Zees this spring.
