The opportunity to try on the wheels of the trade drew crowds of future drivers to the Rye Free Reading Room’s Vehicle Fair this Sunday, May 31, 2026. Kids hopped into the driver’s seat of a police car, bucket truck, firetruck, and school bus among other transport themed activities.
Hundreds of children and families gathered on the Village Green to admire the plethora of vehicles and enjoy the many kid-friendly activities including a crafts, face painting, a bounce house, and an appropriately fire truck themed inflatable obstacle course. With over 2,000 people in attendance and 750 families, the fundraiser raised about $54,000. The proceeds from this event will be used to fund a number of Rye Free Reading Room programs and activities including Wiggle Giggle, the Summer Reading program, Music Mondays on the Green, and the weekday Discovery Zone activities.
The Bubble Bus filled the event with lively music and an abundance of bubbles, matching the fun and playful mood. Prize baskets were won by attendees through a raffle, and food trucks provided an easy lunch or sweet treat.
