On Monday, May 18, 2026, Rye schools released a new anonymous reporting system. Students across the district can submit secure tips about threats, bullying, or self-harm via a mobile app, website, or 24/7 hotline. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (ARS), developed by Sandy Hook Promise, empowers students to recognize warning signs of potential concerns – whether in school, online or within the community.

As part of the implementation, Rye Middle School and Rye High School students participated in a training video to build awareness and understanding of the program. They also received information cards and “Say Something” bracelets during their lunch periods. Following the training, the students were able to access the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System through the district’s website. Reports submitted through the system are reviewed by a trained call center and directed to appropriate school personnel and, when necessary, law enforcement. “The safety and well-being of our students, staff and school community remain our highest priority,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tricia Murray said. “We know that students often have unique insight into the experiences and challenges of their peers. This program helps equip them with the tools and confidence to support one another and seek help when it is needed, both in person and in digital spaces. We believe this is an important step in strengthening our shared responsibility to care for one another and ensure a safe school environment.”

The Sandy Hook Promise National Crisis Center (NCC) says that through its work with schools:

  • More than 344,000 tips received
  • At least 19 credible planned school shooting attacks averted
  • More than 1,000 confirmed lives saved from suicide
  • At least 318 acts of violence with a weapon prevented

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national, nonprofit organization based in Newtown, Connecticut. It is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, that claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and 6 educators. SHP is focused on preventing gun violence (and other forms of violence and victimization) before it happens by educating and mobilizing youth and adults on mental health and wellness programs that identify, intervene and help at-risk individuals.

While the Rye City School District did not disclose its specific arrangement, the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is donor-supported and often provided at no cost to schools.
