The Rye Softball team bounced back with a quality win on Tuesday, May 5, defeating Rye Neck 13-6. The Garnets entered the game off the heels of a difficult loss to White Plains, but rebounded in a big way to score double-digit runs.
Georgina Gilmore had a 2-out, bases-clearing triple in the top of the first to drive in 3 runs and make the score 5-0,” Head Coach Alex Tejera told MyRye.com when asked to name his top play of the game. “These runs turned out to be even more important, because Rye Neck was able to score 3 in the bottom of the first. Instead of being down 3-2, we were able to maintain the lead.”
The Garnets never squandered that lead, continuing to apply offensive pressure. Their 13-run performance was supplemented by Penelope Gilmore’s complete game in the circle in which she allowed four earned runs and struck out five. She also went 2-3 with two extra-base hits and three runs scored.
Sophiah Collins had one of her stronger games of the year with two hits, two RBIs, and three runs, as she was in the center of the action each time Rye rallied. Charlotte Dinger drove in two and had a double, and Reese McGill scored twice on a 1-3 day with a walk. Most of the lineup chipped in one way or another against the Rye Neck pitching staff.
The Garnets (4-11) will look to turn this victory into a streak when they host Nanuet at 4:30pm on Thursday, May 7.
