A 2,000 square-foot French cafe has opened at 64 Purchase Street at the site of the former Snackery Bakery. The Snackery closed in January.
Maman Rye, part of a 55 location chain of French cafes, opened their Rye location on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026.
Founded by Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte, maman is inspired by the South of France, with vintage furnishings and imported tiles lining the bar and bathrooms. It is the company’s first location in Westchester. There are already 29 of the locations across the tri-state area. The first location opened in SoHo in 2014.
Open daily (7:30am – 6:00pm weekdays and 8:00am – 6:00pm on weekends), maman Rye offers an espresso and tea menu, a selection of housemade pastries, and made-to-order savory items including salads, wraps, sandwiches, and soups. Their signature nutty chocolate chip cookie was recognized by Oprah’s “Favorite Things”.
The Company and Founders
Sormonte has a business and hospitality background, having transitioned from a career in finance and corporate law in Toronto and London. His experience includes roles with the Experimental Group, overseeing projects in Ibiza, New York and Paris. Marshall is a Toronto native and the creative force with a background in fashion, PR, and event planning. Before launching Maman, she co-founded a catering company and planned events ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations.
