The Rye Volleyball team started their 2026 season flawlessly on Wednesday, September 2, sweeping Tappan Zee 25-14, 25-13, 25-23. The Garnets – who defeated the Dutchmen in a much tighter four-set affair in the 2025 sectional championship game – showed just how prepared they were for the campaign to begin, only facing real trouble after they were up two sets to zero.
Several of the key contributors head coach Geri Jones highlighted before the season shined in the victory, including new starting libero Margo Ehrenberg. The senior led her team with 21 digs, also supplying two service aces. Amelie Modesto dished out 21 assists, dug out six balls, and served up three aces in an impressive performance.
Other Garnets to have strong nights included Katie Hillis with a club-leading ten kills, Lexi Kessner with ten digs and five aces, and middle blocker Audre Campbell with five kills and three blocks.
Rye (1-0) takes on Valhalla in their next game at 4:30pm on Friday, September 4. The Garnets will look to win their second of three consecutive road contests to begin the year.
