The Rye Boys Soccer team pushed their win streak to a dozen games on Thursday, October 8, as they downed Peekskill 4-0. The Garnets came out flying in their fresh October-classic pink kits en route to another dominant victory.

“Tonight was an emotional night. We had a poignant pre-match presentation in the multipurpose room with an incredible message from a cancer survivor and team parent,” head coach Jared Small reflected after the win. “She then unveiled this year’s all pink cancer awareness kit, and when all was said and done we put in a pretty complete performance against a worthy opponent.”

Kasen Scarperi and Felix Wismer continued their blistering hot seasons with a pair of goals apiece. Scarperi used his entire frame to his benefit on Thursday night, collecting a Luke Rodenze pass with his thigh before finishing in the 22nd minute before redirecting a perfect cross from Harrison Zimmer right out of the gates in the second half with his chest. That goal made it 3-0 Rye at the time.

Wismer’s two goals came in different styles, with one a rocket off his right foot in the first half and the other a beautiful curler to close out the scoring.

“Other standouts this evening included goalkeeper Trent Roseberry, who helped preserve the clean sheet with a series of strong decisions off his line in the second half,” Small said. “Andrey Chernov made the start along the backline and put in 64 minutes of strong tackles and steady defending.”

Despite the win, Rye saw two players exit the game early with injury, which placed a bit of fog over what otherwise would have been a well-oiled performance.

“We suffered two significant injuries,” Small said. “In a heartbeat, we would trade tonight’s win for a loss in exchange for our team members’ health.”

Rye (12-0) will look to their depth to help them keep their unbeaten streak alive in the team’s next game on Saturday, October 10. The Garnets host Pelham for an 11:00am morning start.
