Michael Robert Longo, 34, Remembered for His Love of Family, Sports and the Rye Community

Michael “Mike” Longo was born in Palo Alto, California, and grew up in Rye, New York. He passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2026, his 34th birthday.

Mike grew up in Rye, and it was always a place that meant a great deal to him. He loved the community he came from and the friendships and relationships he made here throughout his life.

Sports were a huge part of Mike’s life from a young age. He loved football and lacrosse, as well as just about any other sport. He played football at Rye High School, where he was proud to be a state champion and represent the Garnets. His time playing football in Rye only made his love for the sport stronger, and it stayed with him long after his playing days were over.

As Mike got older, one of the ways he continued that love of sports was through coaching.

Mike loved coaching and working with kids of all ages. He enjoyed teaching them the game, helping them improve and, most importantly, making sure they were enjoying themselves. Being around young athletes came naturally to him. He loved sharing what he knew and giving kids the same kind of experience with sports that meant so much to him growing up.

Outside of sports, Mike cared deeply about his family and friends.

Those who knew Mike will remember how much he cared about the people in his life. Whether it was family, longtime friends, former teammates, the kids he coached or people he knew around Rye, relationships were important to him.

Mike is survived by his parents, Peter and Stacy Longo, Laura Longo; his siblings, Pete and his wife Amanda, Kelsey, Alyssa and Kevin; his beloved nephew, Lorenzo; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mike’s life ended far too soon. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, the athletes he coached and the Rye community he was proud to call home.
