The Rye Field Hockey team drew Lakeland 3-3 on Tuesday, October 13, as the teams split the points in a thrilling game. Rye held leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 in a very strong offensive effort, but the Hornets found the tying goal with under five minutes to play.
“There were a lot of great moments from this game,” head coach Valerie Montano told MyRye.com. “Liv Prata had a incredible goal early in the first quarter. She got around Lakeland’s defense and beat their goalie one on one.”
Prata struck first just 4:59 into the game, knifing through the Lakeland defense and jolting the Garnets to life. Dylan Ehrlich scored the other two goals for Rye, both on deflections right around the net front. Robyn Wilmont set both goals up and Tessa Zicari made nine saves on 12 shots faced.
“Dylan Ehrlich had two really great tips to score which is something we’ve been working on,” Montano told MyRye.com. “Tessa Zicari had a great game in goal as well and came up with some really key saves. Several other players really stepped up this game, and overall we’re really proud of the progress we’ve made.”
After a 1-3 start, the Garnets have climbed back to 7-5-1 through 13 games. They next play on Thursday, October 15, in a non-league contest at Kingston at 6:30pm.
