Toys for Tots & Other Give Back by PD and FD Unions
The Rye PBA and Rye FD Local 2029 are busy supporting charities this holiday season, starting with Toys for Tots.
The Rye PBA has its regular Toys for Tots collection point at Rye PD headquarters (21 McCullough Place, by the train station). The COVID twist: bring unwrapped toys to HQ, and then ring the bell to the station house. Leave the package and an officer will be out to bring it inside. Toy drop off is open 24/7. Rye Professional Firefighters Local 2029 is joining in by making a financial donation to Toys For Tots online and you can too. “This is something that I personally participated in during my time in the Marine Reserves, so I’ve seen the impact up close and personal,” Local 2029 rep and Rye firefighter Andy Northshield told MyRye.com.
Local 2029 is also sponsoring a family for the holidays through the organization Soldiers Angels. They help provide holiday gifts for families who are suffering financial hardships as a result of a member being deployed, as well as service connected killed and wounded members of the armed forces. The FD local also purchased roughly $3,200 worth of gift cards to local food establishments a few months ago, and plans a similar round of purchases in the next few weeks.
