Gas Leaf Blowers: “The Gig is Up Until the Fall”

Rye NY Gas Leaf Blower Ban - 2024

The seasonal ban on gas leaf blowers in the City of Rye went into effect on Wednesday, May 1st. According to City Code, “gas leaf blowers may only be used during the Fall and Spring cleanup seasons defined as from October 1 to December 15 and from March 1 to April 30.”

“Yesterday it was the last day of leaf blower season for the summer,” said Rye City Manager Greg Usry at the City Council meeting Wednesday evening. “Enforcement has begun and there were a number of tickets issued and warnings issued today. We’ll be doing some additional notices there but unless you have an electric leaf blower the gig is up until the fall.”

Beyond gas leaf blowers, the City Code also states: “use of motorized landscaping equipment, including lawn mowers, leaf blowers and other outdoor machine-powered equipment, is permitted only between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekends.” The equipment is also “not permitted on holidays, Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur.”

It is a good time to remind your landscaping service of these rules in the interest of neighborhood harmony.

Serenity now!
