Rye PD issued a warning Thursday morning about “suspicious activity” at a residence on Beck Avenue, off Forest Avenue. The location is close to Playland Amusement Park and Playland Parkway.

On Monday at 2:00am, Rye PD officer Leonard spotted a Mazda driving slowly on Beck Avenue. As he approached, he observed a male in dark clothing exit the driveway of a residence on Beck and get into the Mazda. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed onto I-95 South.

The pursuit was terminated at Exit 18. The suspect vehicle was a dark colored Mazda bearing Connecticut vanity plate TCASSON out of Waterbury. Officer Leonard followed up with the Beck Avenue homeowner after the pursuit. Their unlocked vehicle was entered but nothing had been stolen.

Vehicle theft has been an ongoing issue in Rye, and thieves target homeowners who leave their cars unlocked and they key fobs in the car.

Lock up your vehicles.
